While I was on vacation in the midwest, I came across something that bothered me! I come from a straight laced family, and I was brought up to think that drinking, gambling, and smoking were not acceptable things to have in your life.
- When I traveled to the Midwest to visit my cousin, who was brought up on the total opposite spectrum, he was into living a more carefree life.
Knowing that didn’t really bother me much, I was more concerned with having a wonderful visit. When he recommended that the two of us go down to the farmers market, I was all for it. I thought we were going to pick up some fresh fruits and vegetables, maybe see some original artwork. I was excited about going, but when we arrived and I saw that it was a different type of farmers market, I started to second guess if I should be there. I did not see any stands that had what I was expecting. What I saw instead were rows of tents set up and people selling different forms of cannabis. I knew that marijuana was legal in the state where my cousin lived, but I had no idea that it would be sold out in the open. My cousin could tell I was shocked by the look on my face, so he explained that he knew several of the local marijuana farmers and came here to support their business. It dawned on me at that moment that my cousin was a man who used recreational marijuana. I’m not lying when I say it shocked me. I would have never been able to guess that I knew someone personally that did that. I had a wonderful time for the rest of my visit and I feel like I will be going back next year.
